By signing the sales contract with the Hungarian Power Companies Ltd., the Municipality of Tatabánya and ELMIB Co. have taken control over the Tatabánya Heating Plant. The town and the power company are going to start to prepare the intended developments, thus enhancing the efficiency of the power station and reducing environmental pollution. The change of ownership will immediately result in a 35% reduction in pre- and post-season heating bills.
The takeover of the Tatabánya Heating Plant has been concluded by a payment of 3.6bn HUF made by the Municipality of Tatabánya and ELMIB Co. to Hungarian Power Companies Ltd. ELMIB, the Municipality of Tatabánya and the state-owned power company signed the sales contract last year. The document states that the majority (51%) of the shares is owned by the town, while ELMIB Energy Ltd. holds a stake of 49% and it is in charge of the day-to-day operation of the company employing about 100 people.
As a result of an earlier agreement, the town of Tatabánya will start modernizing the municipal heating system with the help of ELMIB. A considerable part of the profit made by the heating plant is going to be used to modernize the district-heating providing an opportunity for consumers to measure and control their consumption individually, thus facilitating energy saving. The Local Government of Tatabánya intends to give a discount of 35% from pre- and post-season heating bills.
Although a private investor, ELMIB Group is ideal for Tatabánya as a partner focusing on long-term co-operation, development and the benefit of the community. ELMIB is planning developments which will increase both the efficiency of energy generation and the competitiveness of district-heating. The company is going to start to size up the energy balance of the region to assess the possibility of using renewable energy sources. The Tatabánya Heating Plant was retrofitted from coal to gas in 2004. The ELMIB Group is constantly seeking opportunities to develop green energy-based, decentralised energy supply in Tatabánya as well. Energy production based on renewable sources is much cheaper in the long run than imported energy; beside reducing delivery routes and the environmental impact, it plays a significant role in reducing energy dependency and increasing safety of supply.
The ELMIB group is one of the most rapidly growing Hungarian-owned energy companies providing full-scale, environmentally friendly services to municipalities, state-owned and private companies, tailored to regional demands throughout the country. It offers a comprehensive set of services in the energy business: energy generated from renewable resources, energy trading and gas distribution. The company is also active in the modernization and operation of public and indoor lighting systems and provides complex energetical solutions for institutions.
